Samsung to unveil Galaxy S IV on March 14th?

SamMobile reports that Samsung is scheduled to unveil the Galaxy S IV on March 14th at a press event in New York City. The information comes from Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin, who has a decent track record with unannounced smartphones.

Previous rumors suggested that Samsung might announce the Galaxy S IV on March 15th or March 22nd, so most of the industry insiders are expecting some kind of event in March. Last year Samsung announced the Galaxy S III on May 3rd in London, so it would be surprising to see them announce their next flagship device a couple months earlier this year.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy S IV is rumored to include the “Exynos 5 Octa (8-Core) CPU, Mali-T678 (8-Core) GPU, 4.99? SuperAMOLED Full HD Resolution Display, 2GB of RAM, 13 Megapixel Rear facing Camera capable of shooting 1080p Full HD Videos at 30FPS, 2 Megapixel front facing camera capable of shooting 720p HD Videos and run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.”

If this Samsung reveal date is accurate, it could be a major blow to HTC who has their own press event scheduled for tomorrow. HTC is widely expected to announce their next flagship phone (codename M7) and rumors suggest it could go on sale by March 22nd.

That means HTC could have their flagship device in retails stores before Samsung, but Samsung could persuade smartphone buyers to delay their purchases by revealing details of the Galaxy S IV before the HTC device goes on sale. Expect more details in the coming weeks.
